2 بسم اهلل الرمحن الرحيم From the beginning of time the first step one needs to take in obtaining guidance and spiritual connection and proximity with one s creator is the acquisition of knowledge. Imam Ghazali (RH) quotes in his Ihyaul Uloom the saying of a Saint: العلم بذر و العمل زرع و ماءه اإلخالص )كتاب النية و اإلخالص و الصدق ) Knowledge is a seed, Action is cultivation and sincere intention is its rain (Book of intention, sincerity and truthfulness) Thus for any society to grow and prosper, primarily the seeds of knowledge need to be planted, showered with sincerity of intention and constantly cultivated by action and preservation. Only then will we have the first sprout of guided individuals who would gradually grow in becoming stable and uprooted Muslims. Furthermore, by acting and propagating their knowledge they will become a means in transforming our community into a forest of Muataqi (god-conscious), law-biding citizens. Knowledge is a light of the heart that guides one on his journey upon the Siraatul Mustaqeem (Straight path) leading to the ultimate destination of paradise. Absence of knowledge leaves one in ignorance and darkness which creates internal turmoil and doubts in one s understanding and practicing of Deen. If knowledge is not learnt, practised and passed on from one generation to the other then eventually we will be left in a time about which the Prophet (ﷺ) mentioned, That Islam will fade just like the designs of a cloth fades, until there will be a time when there will be no fasting, charity and religious devotion. A few individuals will remain who will know of nothing except of the Kalimah (La ilaha illallah) which they heard from their forefathers. (Narrated by Hakim, 473) With the importance of knowledge in mind, the first institute and centre where one learns deen, good manners and character is the lap of one s mother. For any child their mother is the ultimate role model; imitating and following them in everything they see and hear. This is why it is essential that women are well versed in the Islamic sciences, have a strong bond with the recitation and teaching of the Quran and inculcate the blessed Sunnah in their lifestyles. Not only will this be a means of their spiritual felicity in this world and eternal prosperity in the next, but by the subtle effect of their practicing and teaching they will hopefully distil the love the of Islam within their families and transform their home and society into havens of piety. With this aim and necessity in mind Madni Institute has developed an Alimiyyah Studies program and a Foundation in Islamic Studies course which will help lay the foundation for women in the 21 st century to learn, practice and propagate their faith. The need to study Classical Islam in a contemporary manner and time has never been so great, where the bridge between one s duty towards their religion and responsibilities as a British Citizen need to be addressed. 3 The Alimiyyah Studies syllabus has thus been designed so that by the means of studying classical texts in Arabic and English one can develop a deep insight with the teachings of Islam; an opportunity for one to enhance their practical and spiritual life by coinciding knowledge with practice. The Alamiyyah Studies program will in affect create the necessary English speaking scholars we need in educating and rectifying today s Ummah. Whether one take the role of an Islamic scholars, school teachers, academic researchers, writers this course will help one step onto that platform. By the end of the course students are expected to have a good understanding of classical Arabic as well as sound knowledge on Tafeer, Hadith, Fiqh and Seerah. More importantly students are encouraged to widen their extra-curriculum study and gain confidence in reading, understanding and analysing different book in the same subject not particularly taught in the course. The Alimiyyah Studies classes will be held from Monday to Thursday from 7.45am until 12.50pm and on Friday from 7.45am until 11.50am. The day will be split up in to 6 lessons with a 15min break every day. This will amount to approximately 24 hours of teaching time per week. In the first 2 year students will complete Foundation in Islamic Studies course as well as addition books from the Alimiyyah Studies program. In the next 2 year students will complete the Alimiyyah Studies program covering most texts in Arabic. Note: The Alimiyyah Study program is still under development. Currently we are working towards extending the course to a complete 7 years program, including a comprehensive analysis of the books of Hadith. We are also taking steps in affiliating the Institute with a reputable Islamic Institute where we will be able to certify the program as a complete Aalimah course. Considering the busy lifestyle and countless responsibilities women face we have also developed a much needed shorter Islamic Studies course which covers the essentials one needs in becoming a practicing Muslimah. The course will be taught over 2 years in English so that one is not over stressed with the extra task on learning Arabic before deriving knowledge. Students are introduced to important concepts of Islam from beliefs, commentary of the Quran and Hadith, Islamic Jurisprudence etc. in an approach which is easier to understand and digest for the general audience. The Foundation in Islamic Studies course will be taught 4 days a week, Monday to Thursday from 9.25am to 12.50pm. This will consist of 4 lessons per day with a 15min break accounting to around 14 hours of teaching time per week Based on demand, we are currently proposing plans to run the Foundation in Islamic Studies course during Saturday & Sunday from 9.20am until 12.35pm. Students in both of the courses will also be given a list of recommended reading titles, which the students will have to read independently. 6 Throughout the course students will cover several subject matters: Languages and linguistics of Classical Arabic Classical Arabic involves the study of syntax (Nahw), morphology (Sarf ), Arabic literature (Adab) introducing students to the language of the Quran and Hadith. Aqaaid (Beliefs) Understanding of the fundamental beliefs of a Muslim Quran & Tajweed The rules of recitation and correct pronunciation of the Holy Qur'an will be taught as well extensive practice on how to implement the rules while recitation. Tafseer (Commentry of the Holy Quran) Commentary and explanation of the meaning and injunctions of the Quran from reputed Tafaseer. Hadeeth (Prophetic sayings and traditions) Hadith is a study on the sayings and traditions of Prophet.(ﷺ) Advanced students will also learn the implication of Ahadith on legal verdicts and the stance of prominent Mujtahideen in deducing judgments from divine sources. Fiqh (Islamic Jurisprudence) The Fiqh syllabus includes classical texts on Islamic Jurisprudence as well as a study on the underlining principle on the governance of the Shariyyah (Usoolul Fiqh) Seerah & Tareekh (Islamic History) Students will cover the Seerah (biography) of the blessed life of the Prophet (ﷺ) and his rightly guided Khulafa. Also an insight study on the women at the time of the Prophet (ﷺ) and prominent Islamic personalities throughout history will be taught. A basic requirement for both courses is that students should have adequate knowledge of the English language, where students are able to read write and explain profluently.
